Chamath Palihapitiya on Launching 26 SPACs & Robinhood Investors

Chamath Palihapitiya and I finally sat down to record our long-awaited conversation, and I couldn’t be more excited to share our chat about investing, SPACs and community. Chamath is a busy guy who has given his time to the likes of CNBC, Yahoo Finance and Bloomberg — so I was grateful and excited to have him on my show. While I didn’t get the chance to cover all the topics and questions I wanted to pick Chamath’s brain about, I do think it has opened to the door for us to dive into some deeper discussions in the (hopefully near) future.

Chamath is a legend not just in the Stocktwits community, but in the finance world as a whole. For example, Alex Danco had nothing but praise and great stories for Chamath when I had him on my podcast Panic with Friends. Chamath has a great sense of humor and an exciting perspective on life and investing. I understand even more so why everyone adores him. Although, I think some of my love for him comes from our shared Canadian roots.

Chamath is the founder and CEO of Social Capital, not to be confused with my firm Social Leverage. Chamath’s company Social Capital is a Palo Alto-based venture capital firm that partners with philanthropists, technologists and capitalists to create value and change on a global scale. Before starting his fund, Chamath spent four years at Facebook as their VP of User Growth, Mobile & International.

In this episode, Chamath and I discuss SPACs, the value of social communities, tech, why banks are screwed, Bitcoin, retail investors, his investing perspective and advice for the next generation of investors: “You are the future. Be kind and intellectually curious.”

I hope you all enjoy!
